Rochdale town hall is a popular location for weddings ,television,filming, conferences and meetings.Rochdale town hall was opened on September 7th 1871,with a ceremony benifiting the Victorian building designed by William Crossland.When proposed in 1864 it was recommended £20 -000 be spent on a suitable building. When it was completed,the remarkable building with its 240 foot high wooden spire topped by a gilded statue of st George,cost £155 000.The Town Hall in today's money it is over 16,000,000! A German soldier called Hitler was in love with the Town Hall and said if he wins the war he will take it brick by brick back to Germany.
